Open the meeting

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.

Welcome to the Martinsville AA online meeting.  My name is ____and I am an alcoholic. I would like to welcome visitors, old timers and newcomers.

This is our Preamble.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.  There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.  AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses or opposes any causes.  Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Would someone volunteer for the following readings and then read them in that order?

  1. How It Works

  2. The Twelve Traditions

  3. The Promises

  4. Daily Reflection.

Thanks to everyone who read. Are there any announcements from the floor for the good of AA?" (following a pause for announcements) I would also like to remind everyone to silence their cell phones, please be aware of your background noise and mute if necessary. Please be respectful when someone else is sharing.”

On Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri & Sat:

This is a closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. In support of A.A.'s singleness of purpose, attendance at closed meetings is limited to persons who have a desire to stop drinking. If you think you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend this meeting. We ask that when discussing our problems, we confine ourselves to those problems as they relate to alcoholism.

On Thu & Sun:

This is an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. We are glad you are all here — especially newcomers. In keeping with our singleness of purpose and our Third Tradition which states that “The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking,” we ask  that all who participate confine their discussion to their problems with alcoholism.

Open the floor to anyone who might need share something threatening their sobriety.

We also want to invite you to participate in fellowship after the meeting.

This is our Statement of Responsibility.  I am responsible. When anyone anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA to always be there, and for that, I am responsible.

Our 12th Tradition states that anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.I have the right to say I was here but I do not have the right to say anyone else was here.

For those who choose to, let’s close the meeting with a prayer of your choice, or a silent prayer of your choosing.”
